A Lot of Travel and a Few Complications
We’ve put a lot of time in airports this month traveling around the US and visiting with family and friends in New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, Colorado and now, Texas. However, it wasn’t the time on the road that’s become the glitch in writing the blog or the time spent shopping for new gear for the next leg of our travels or even the time spent catching up on all that’s happened in the two years we’ve been gone. Replacing our heavier and older computers with newer models using Windows 8 has proven to be our downfall… ARGH!
So we’ve decided to take a break from posting stories of our travels and places we’ve visited for a couple of weeks. This way we can figure out the intricacies of our new computers and the Windows 8 operating system, catch our breaths and kick back for a few days.
Look for our next post on Saturday, September 6th, where we’ll finish our Panama series and then…Ecuador!
Thanks for reading our blog.
Anita and Richard, August, 2014
Hope you get everything working. Cynthia

I think we’re finally getting our heads wrapped around Windows 8 and also learning the ins and outs of our new computers. This is one area we both have to say “I hate change!”

Richard…windows 8 sucks. You should load windows 7 Ultimate and you will be a lot happier.

Once we got over the shock of seeing our familiar desktops replaced by “tiles” and “charms” navigating and learning the new windows has become a little easier. But, talk about a learning curve…!

Don’t think we weren’t kicking ourselves for not buying Macs! We are enjoying our downtime in the US but we’re ready to get back to exploring new countries and cultures in September.

Totally understood, Anita and Richard. Upgrading computer gear has that pleasure/pain sensation. So much to learn, so many changes – but at least you know all will eventually be better. Have fun kicking back and we’ll see you when you return. 🙂 ~Terri

You’re right about the pleasure/pain sensation when dealing with new electronic gear! In addition to the new laptops with Windows 8 we also upgraded our plain old Kindle e-readers to Kindle Fires and replaced our defunct I-pods with new and slightly different models. It will be terrific to have everything working again like it’s supposed to but getting there has definitely been a hair-tearing process!

Thanks, Ann. It’s been great to spend time and catch up with family and friends. We’ve agreed that, in the future, two years is much too long to be away so we’ll have to start planning annual returns to the US. Skype and e-mail are wonderful but can’t replace real face-to-face time!

Yes technology can be great for keeping in touch with family and friends, but CANNOT replace the benefits of face-to-face. Thanks for “liking” my post Encounter Me.

Skype and e-mail just can’t replace a good, old fashioned hug and hours of meandering talks!

Our question has been “Why change what’s working?” !!! Aw well … We are getting through the learning curve and finding out that windows 8 is not as daunting as it once seemed!

Can’t believe it’s been a year since we met y’all on Utila, our own Paradise Island! It’s fun to follow you on FB but it’d be more fun to see you face to face. One of these days we’ll retrace our steps to one on our favorite places and reacquaint ourselves with good friends!

I think the difficulties with our hectic travel pace this month plus learning about all of our other new gadgets (i-pods, tablets, laptops) and windows 8 have just been a reminder to S-L-O-W D-O-W-N and take things one step at a time! We were thinking that we hadn’t really been affected by our return to the US after a couple of years but I do notice that our stress level has ratcheted way up… doesn’t matter if it comes from within or without!
